Band Notes FEBRUARY 23-FEBRUARY 28, 2014

BALLARD BAAAANNNND NAAAATIOOOOOONNNN!!!!

It seems that the snow just couldn’t take a hint.  The guest that wouldn’t leave….

Even though we have a delay, tomorrow – it will be nice to get back to school.  We’ll be on an abbreviated schedule, but be prepared to work hard in the short time we have together.

I want to start with an exciting new culture that we are beginning!  For those that attended last year’s Year-End Picnic, each student received pins, letters and chevrons for their achievements throughout the year.  Let’s put those achievements on SCHOOL LETTERMAN JACKETS!!! The goal is to have jackets that all look the same, so the link below goes to a survey to decide the final color scheme.  All jackets will go through our approved vendor, so that they will all be the same style.  And we get to pass on a great discount to you by doing so!

You’ll find that these jackets will mean far more to you than any class ring.  Each extra event that you attend – marching band contests, solo and ensemble, all-county, all-state, DCI Finals, Mid-States Championships, KMEA State Championships, Music For All National Festival, etc. – will have patches, pins and buttons that can go on your jacket.  Again, WAY cooler than a class ring.  J

Here’s the link.  Look at the pictures and pick which one you like best.  If you are fine with either design, there is an answer option for that.

The next three weeks are going to be exceptionally busy.  Not only do we need to get the Wind Ensemble ready to perform on the national stage, but we’re also looking forward to upcoming events and seasons.  Some things that you need to know:

·      Marching Band Information Meeting, TUESDAY, FEB 24TH.  This meeting is critical to all families intending to participate in marching band, this fall.  It is also a great opportunity for those that are interested in learning more about the ensemble.  I’ll discuss the schedule, new uniforms, new schedule layout, and the new fee structure.  Come get all of the cool info, and take part in the fastest growing ensemble at Ballard!!

·      Leadership Team Information Meeting, WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25TH.  If you are interested in being a part of the Ballard Band Leadership Group, you need to attend this meeting.  I will hand out applications and talk about upcoming training and events. This is open to any and all members of the band program.  Come see what it’s all about!

·      Marching Band Uniform Fitting, THURSDAY, FEB. 26TH.  Doug Neal, our Demoulin Uniform rep, will be at school to fit everyone for their BRAND NEW UNIFORM for the fall.  We will begin with those that have rehearsal at 2:30 PM.  Make sure that you come get fitted.  We have to do this now to ensure that we have the uniforms by September.  IF YOU DO NOT GET FITTED, THEN YOU DO NOT GET YOUR CUSTOM FIT UNIFORM.  It’s important.

·      Solo and Ensemble Festival is THIS SATURDAY, FEB. 28TH!!  With last week stolen by winter weather, there is no opportunity to give you much class time to practice.  The good news is that the band room is open before and after school – every day!  There may be other rehearsals going on, but the instrument storage room is open and we have plenty of stands!  Take the time to practice!

·      Pit Orchestra Rehearsals will begin NEXT WEEK!!  We will be receiving the music this week.  Copies will be made, and I’ll need some help from students to assemble the packets on Friday, Feb. 27th.

Attached is the schedule for the week. Please take a look at it.  Or better yet, print it and put it on the refrigerator. J

It’s time to hit the ground running! We have much to accomplish in the coming weeks.
