9/29/17 - INVITATIONAL FINAL VOLUNTEER INFORMATION AND ADDITIONAL WORKERS

posted Sep 29, 2017, 7:25 AM by Ballard Band

ATTENTION ALL INVITATIONAL VOLUNTEERS and ANYONE WHO WANTS TO HELP

Listed below is all the information you’ll need to know.  There are a lot of details, so please pay
close attention.  All are welcome - we
still need more volunteers.

FRIDAY

Mr. Kling will be leading us in a walk-through and clean-up of the
campus.  If you have not volunteered
before, we encourage you to come get familiar with where you’l l be volunteering
and where everything is.  We will start
soon after rehearsal ends at about 4:30 PM.
We will be there for several hours so come as soon as you can.  There is a game scheduled, so we will have to
work around them.

SATURDAY

START TIME

AM Shift - We are asking all volunteers for the AM shift to report to
Ballard at 6:00 AM.  The first band is
scheduled to arrive at 6:45.  We will
begin with setting up tables, chairs and tents for every area, and making sure
every area is clean, stocked, and ready to go.
The first performance is at 9:15 AM.
It’s going to be a beautiful day and we expect a huge turnout.

PM Shift – Please arrive by 2:30 and be ready to take over at 3:00.

PARKING

Everyone is asked to park at Kammerer Middle School.  There is a pathway and sidewalk on the
backside of Kammerer that leads to Ballard.
It will take you between the football and baseball fields.  There will not be any parking available at
Ballard.  If you need to drop of
anything, you may do so then park your vehicle at Kammerer.

CHECK-IN

All volunteers need to sign in at the check-in table located in front
of the Fine Arts Center.  There you will
receive a white wristband for identification and meals.

MEALS

Breakfast will be available at the Volunteer Hospitality tent.  Each volunteer (students and parents) will
receive one (1) meal per shift through the concession stand.  If you’re working both, you will receive
lunch and dinner.  Your wristband will be
punched for each.  Snacks and drinks will
be available throughout the day at the Volunteer tent.  Please be sure to eat and keep yourself
hydrated!

ATTIRE

Students – Mr. Kling has given the students their uniform for the day.

Adults - Please wear your Ballard spirit wear.  Since not all adults have a band polo, you
may wear a band T-shirt if you have one.
If not, we will have shirts available for sale tomorrow at the walk
through.  Comfortable shoes are a
must.  It’s going to be a long day.  The temperature is expected to drop so come
prepared.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Please be on time and come prepared to work in the area you signed up
for.  We have some areas that may need
assistance so there is a possibility you may be pulled to help in other areas
if needed.

Lastly, make sure to purchase a program so you can keep up with the

changes in the schedule.  Blayr S
sent out an email with the trophy presentation times.  Please make sure your band student is on time
for their presentation.

Finally, thank you, thank

you, thank you!!!  Saturday is going to
be a great day!

Ballard Band Bugle - Express Edition

posted May 16, 2017, 3:18 PM by Ballard Band

Ballard Band Bugle – May 16, 2017

Hello, Ballard Band Nation! Just a few things this week, so switching our format for the Bugle – hope you don’t mind!

“Spring Fling” Concert Thursday Night – 7:00 Fine Arts Center

Please join us for our final concert of the 2016/2017 Season on Thursday Night in the FAC! We will celebrate our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band successes and say goodbye to our Seniors as they begin their transition from high school to college students.

 Band Banquet Thank Yous

Thank you to everyone who came to the Banquet on Friday night – the food was wonderful and the company even better! We appreciate all that our awesome parents do for our children, but wanted to especially thank Laura and Mark Cooksey, for helping secure and set up the venue, and Belinda King and Oberer’s Flowers, for the beautiful flower centerpieces.

 Kick Off Meeting Reminders

Thank you to all of our volunteers for the Kick Off Meeting! For anyone who attended (or couldn't make it) - don’t forget to turn in your paperwork for next year’s band season if you haven’t already! If you weren’t able to make the Kickoff Meeting we will be sending Ballard Band Handbook out via email at a later time and copies will be available at the Spring Fling concert on Thursday. Please turn this paperwork in as soon as possible so we may update your information and make sure you get the emails over the summer as we prepare for Marching Band Camp and the beginning of the 2017/2018 school year.  Please also remember that this year’s dues need to be up-to-date before we can accept payment for next year.

 Easy Fundraiser – Amazon Smile

Did you know that the Ballard Band (through the Boosters) is a registered non-profit? This makes us eligible for fundraising programs through many areas, including Amazon Smile! This is a very easy fundraiser as it takes just using an assigned link and the Ballard band will receive 0.5% of every purchase made! Even once your child graduates you can still continue to benefit the band program as you can use this link to rent or buy college textbooks (trust me, Amazon has most of the best prices).

For Amazon Smile, please use this link to process your Amazon purchases: http://smile.amazon.com/ch/01-0789589. This link will also work with your “Amazon Prime” membership, but the purchases only benefit the band if they are made using this link.  The first time you log on with the link Amazon gives you a “button” to bookmark the page and then you are all set!

Special Thank You from Patrick & Lynn

Patrick and Lynn wanted to send out a special “Thank You” to our Ballard Band Families for the donations to the gifts at the banquet. They wanted to be sure to let everyone know how much they appreciated the thoughts and gestures.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

As the year ends, the Booster Board wants to again say “Thank You” for all you have done for your children this year! We may seem like we are always reaching out for volunteers (and we are) but at the end of the day we are really asking for you to help your children and their friends, and we all appreciate it so much.  We hope you have a fun and safe summer and can’t wait to see you in July!

2017-18 updates

posted May 16, 2017, 3:14 PM by Ballard Band   [ updated May 16, 2017, 3:15 PM ]

Just a few things as the school year is wrapping up and we are preparing for next year.

We had a great kick-off meeting last week. We had lots of excited new families there, and many of our veteran families were there either volunteering, or attending the meeting.

1. FORMS - If you have not turned in your forms yet, you can still do that between now and the last day of school. Getting them now greatly helps ease the record keeping. Getting them all at the beginning of band camp or beginning of school makes it difficult for doing all of the data entry.

If you did not get a handbook with the forms in it, your child can get them in the band room. Also, we plan to have some extras on hand Thursday night at the concert.

**Marching band participants need to have all of their forms, including the physical and a photocopy of their health insurance card by the beginning of band camp, in order to participate!**

2. OFFICERS - As I stated at the kick-off meeting, we are in need of some key officers next year. We had a couple of parents step up to say they could take on the treasurer job.

We still need a President. According to the by-laws, after serving 2 years, Patrick cannot serve anymore.

Without a Booster President, nothing can happen. No money can flow. Band will become just a class. We cannot travel to competitions, pay Kevin for percussion ensemble, purchase new instruments and equipment, as needed, purchase new concert and jazz music, purchase colorguard uniforms, have the marching uniforms cleaned etc, pay the band camp staff etc, etc.

The only stipulation, according to Redbook, is that you cannot be a JCPS employee.

Here is a slate of the officers we have for 2017-18. Thanks to those who have volunteered already

President: ????

1st VP: ???

2nd VP: Charlita H (also in charge of food related tasks)

Treasurer: Possibly filled - waiting to sort out who will be Treasurer and Vice Treasurer Recording secretary: Blayr Sheehan Corresponding Secretary: Alicia Wilder 12th grade rep: Allison Nye 11th grade rep: Rachel Wright 10th grade rep: ???

9th grade rep: Kathy C

Concert band rep: ???

Colorguard rep: ???

3. Payments for dues can continue to come in to the band room while school is in session. After that, they can be sent to the PO Box, which will be checked over the summer.

Remember, to qualify for the early pay discount for 2017-18, all of this year's accounts must be current. If they are not, payments received will be used to bring them current before applying them to the new school year.

If you have any questions, or want to volunteer for one of the booster positions, please respond to this email!

Enjoy the end of the school year, and have a great summer!
